Where are good Places in Texas?

So, i'm getting ready to graduate from high school in 2012. I live in Dallas right now. But I really don't want to stay here. I want to get into Criminal Justice to become a Juvinile Correction Officer. Where should I go? Where is there cheap places to find an apartment? I'm trying to move in with my friend and she says okay. Where do you guys think I should find a place?
